Bing Travel is on a mission to make Bing the first place you visit for your travel decisions. Bing Travel is an award-winning travel site known for its cutting edge airfare prediction engine and consumer analytic tools. We work to improve our handling of travel queries - ingesting the right data, query understanding, building engaging UI, platform components for middle tier logic & so on. Bing Travel is built on a scalable web architecture that handles millions of queries a day. The team has extensive data mining algorithms on huge amount of data for building differentiating travel features. On this team you get the opportunity to work on end-to-end Bing architecture as well as focus on interesting travel related scenarios on web & mobile. We use a mix of Microsoft technologies and Java/OpenSource technologies, which stems from the seeding of the team from the Farecast acquisition. Our goal is to bring the best of both worlds together in architecture & engineering tools/processes. You can view the current product on as well as several features integrated right into the Bing search results page when you search for travel entities/tasks.

There are many more big challenges still on the horizon at Bing Travel. We need to branch out into several new aspects of Travel (Attractions, Places/Destinations, Itinerary Mgmt., Hotels, Rental Cars, Cruises etc.), simplify handling of Travel Tasks in Search and provide great user experiences along with industry leading analytic tools. We’re also improving relevance and the end-to-end experience of travel searches on the Bing results page. This includes improving travel scenarios in query understanding, document understanding & indexing, auto suggestions, instant answers, Captions, Entity Collapse and other areas of core search. We’re also looking at building features to help integrate Facebook content into Bing travel search results and vice versa to increase Bing adoption with FB users.

This is a highly challenging and rewarding environment and the software engineer we are looking for should ideally have the following qualities:
A Bachelors and/or a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
Minimum 5 years of software development experience in C++, C# and/or JAVA plus designing, developing and delivering advanced engineering projects
Developers with experience in web/mobile UX development and front end technologies (i.e., ASP.NET, MVC, AJAX) would be a strong plus, as will someone with strong educational/experience background in data mining and data modeling
Demonstrate a proven track record of shipping products/services in an internet-grade server environment
Strong technical skills and problem solving skills
Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment where smart decisions and trade-offs need to be made
