Senior Business Development Manager - Bing International M/F
EMEA Business Development & Strategy BING
Location: Major EMEA Locations
Role Purpose:
Bing is embarking on the most ambitious geographic and product expansion in its history. International is now front and center at Bing. ASG is charged to make Bing a quality product in 75 markets around the world, driven by the needs of Microsoft’s core products and global strategic alliances - Windows 8, Windows Phone, Xbox, Nokia, Yahoo and others. If getting on the ground floor in this great adventure sounds appealing, this role is for you.
For the EMEA markets, you will drive and execute strategic partnerships and tactical deals in key search distribution and content areas (which may include local, shopping, entertainment, music, books, video, social, news and apps), for the web, mobile/tablets, Xbox and other devices. This is a great opportunity to exercise and further hone your strategic, analytical, negotiation and relationship building skills, and grow your career at Microsoft.
Mission: The Bing International BD team’s mission is to leverage the R&D, brand, content and people assets of Microsoft and of carefully selected third parties, to deliver world-class Bing product experiences (‘build the Bing product’) to our audiences profitably, and, as the Bing product becomes competitive in international markets, seek in-market opportunities to distribute Bing (‘distribute the Bing service”) to drive Bing volume, rate and revenue. In the process, we want to establish ourselves as trusted strategic advisors to our key internal and external stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities:
Unearth, analyze, define, drive, structure, execute and win executive support for complex 3rd party deals and strategic partnerships for search content, distribution, advertising and technology to enhance Bing’s product experiences, user engagement, rate and revenue.
Use analytical methods like build/buy/license and business/financial/ROI modeling, to identify and pursue deals that can measurably impact Bing’s market share, revenue, product engagement and contribution margin.
Have shared responsibility for building and shipping the Bing product in selected markets, working tightly with distributed global R&D and product marketing/planning teams, on an engineering and marketing release cadence.
Become a trusted strategic advisor to R&D and product marketing teams, and win a seat at the table to frame, develop and execute product and partner strategies relevant for key product segments for each market. Build and maintain key partner relationships and become an advocate for your partners within Microsoft.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Prior experience with and solid understanding of online and/or search technologies (web and mobile), and significant experience in executing complex R&D/product driven structured business deals in software or online/search content licensing, working in close cooperation with engineering teams to build search/online products and services.
- Monetization strategy and advertising business models; experience in online media and/or advertising, including search advertising. Proven track record of building and maintaining strategic partnerships with key media companies, publishers and other leading companies in key advertising segments.
- Highly developed strategic, analytical and negotiation skills and demonstrated technical aptitude, intense curiosity about online and search technologies, and a solid working knowledge of intellectual property, legal and contractual issues.
- Strong leadership abilities including innate capacity for strategic thought, maturity and polish to develop trusted relationships with senior leaders internally and externally, powerful intellectual curiosity, and a relentless drive with a high energy level to get things done.
- Demonstrate the maturity, toughness and stamina to operate effectively by himself/herself, removed geographically from the engineering teams and from the core business development team in the US, travel within the EMEA region and to the US and India on a regular basis, and become a compelling ambassador for Bing in the EMEA region.
- The candidate should demonstrate solid interpersonal and collaborative skills to effectively mobilize internal and external resources including Microsoft groups like engineering, legal, corporate development, corporate strategy, and finance, and external partners spanning Global 1000 companies as well as venture-backed start-ups.
