Job ID: 874093-139319
Division: Applications and Services Engineering
The Bing Maps team is focused on building a geospatial information platform that will harness the world’s knowledge to enhance people’s lives. The Geospatial team will build the location data and services parts of that platform to enable deep, real-world knowledge and hyper-local capabilities.
Competition and innovation in the online mapping and geospatial industry is ramping up at a furious pace, and Microsoft is at the center of the action. The Geospatial team is looking for a Senior PM that is ready to roll up their sleeves and help us build the future. Our platform will be one of the most fundamental “knowledge graphs” on which all other data is pivoted. In the real world, where commerce happens, “where” is a critical property. Deep geospatial intelligence in the cloud turns theory into reality for mobile commerce, augmented reality, NUI, and digital concierge/recommendation engine concepts.
Bing Geospatial includes Bing Maps on the Web, the Bing Maps Enterprise SDK used by thousands of developers, the Bing Maps app for Win8. Now we’re expanding our technology core to the next level, building a geospatially aware knowledge platform composed of services and data that will power amazing new scenarios. We’re working with Microsoft’s biggest businesses to enable smarter, more natural, compelling experiences for Windows, Office, Windows Phone, Azure.
We’re looking for a highly technical Senior Program Manager to enrich our corpus of location data and improve map data quality and coverage. Ideal candidates have mapping experience, preferably high exposure to geographic information systems.
Experience designing or working with large scale geographic data processing services outputting to downstream web services and applications is a significant advantage. Previous experience working with GIS, mapping, or complex data processing systems and services is also a plus. Ability to impact & influence teams with good technical chops is a must.
Other requirements include:
5 or more years’ experience and demonstrated track record of leading teams to ship quality data and/or data systems, as a Program Manager
Proven ability designing and shipping complex, technical software systems
Experience working in a fast-paced data-oriented release environment with specific experience developing project plans and managing releases on short cycles (e.g. Agile, Scrum, etc.)
Minimum B.S. in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
GIS industry experience will be provided special consideration.
Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, marital status, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected status.
