Job ID: 881219-144178
Division: Applications and Services Engineering
Have you ever issued a query to a search engine, and the information you got back was inappropriate or, worse yet, offensive? Or maybe you set your search engine to filter out explicit adult material, but were surprised with adult content making its way into the results page anyway? Here at Bing Adult Filtering team we are committed to providing a ‘safe’ search experience to Bing’s users. Our mission is to protect our users by identifying and filtering out content that is inappropriate for a particular age group, offensive and unwanted given user intent, or illegal in a particular market.
It is up to this team to ensure that users do not get inundated with links to inappropriate material and we take tremendous pride in knowing that *we* prevent such poor experience that’s harmful both to the user as well as the Bing brand. Aside from the obviously difficult job of accurate adult content detection, our team deals with a number of other challenges that constantly keep us on our toes: a) believe it or not, adult content and terminology evolves over time, which means our algorithms constantly need to learn and adjust; b) the degree to which certain content is appropriate/ acceptable is culture-based and differs from one market to the next; c) content legality is also market specific and, to complicate this further, such laws/ considerations are often in a state of flux.
To deliver on our promise, particularly in light of some of these challenges, we develop innovative, state of the art systems that employ cutting edge machine learning technologies, sophisticated classification algorithms and natural language modeling. All of these rely on massive data mining and analysis run on top of Cosmos. Our detection engine analyzes each document served by Bing index, processing billions of documents every day, thus performance is an integral part of product development for us. In this team, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate (and grow) your analytical thinking, information retrieval prowess, engineering skills and creativity as you drive one of the most business critical areas in Bing and deliver your innovative solutions to provide a safe searching experience to hundreds of millions of Bing users.
This job requires strong technical skills. You must have the following skills and experience:
*Strong proficiency, backed up by 3+ years programming experience, in C++/C#
*Strong track record of shipping high-quality product features on schedule
*Demonstrated experience in a rapid development environment
*Experience in information retrieval, machine learning, data mining or natural language processing is a definite plus, but not a hard requirement.
Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, marital status, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected status.
